Girls Lacrosse
PDF Print E-mail

North Carolina Lacrosse Academy is dedicated to the proper cultivation and prosperity of both the boys and girls games of lacrosse. After many fruitful years of growing the boys game, the NCLA began offering a six-week fall instructional clinic for girls in the first to eighth grade. High school players are offered the opportunity to enroll in both instructional clinics and competitive play in the same program. Every year attendance has increased at the fall instructional for girls, with over 90 girls participating in the 2010 program. Taking the next step in promoting the girls game, NCLA will rolled out its first girls select travel teams for the 2011 spring season at both the U13 and U15 levels. And as spring turns to summer, NCLA  continues to offer a unique five-week Summer Pick-Up program for girls who want to keep improving their game and meeting new players throughout the year.

Fall Instructional Clinics (RALLY) are held in Raleigh on six consecutive Saturdays in three age groups: 2nd through 4th, 5th through 8th and high school. For beginners in grades 1 through 4, see RALLY COED under the RALLY programs.  The girls are instructed in proper stretching and conditioning, learn the basic skills of the game and learn the rules that govern the game. Our group of experienced coaches uses a variety of teaching techniques, including basic instruction; station drills, inter-squad competitions, slow–teaching scrimmage and competitive scrimmage. Each session lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Certified athletic trainers, as well as coaches, are on-hand to attend to emergencies as needed.

Fall Competitive Play (SLLIC) games for High School Players are held in Raleigh on six consecutive Saturdays. These games are for experienced players who enjoy playing with team members from across the area.  Each game session lasts 90 minutes. Certified athletic trainers, as well as coaches, are on-hand to attend to emergencies as needed.

Select Travel Teams (Carolina Flight) are assembled in the spring to play in multi-state lacrosse tournaments. Players must try out for these teams, be committed to practices and ready play out of town at the highest level. NCLA attempts to schedule tournaments that are reasonably close and in places that also offer other family activities.

Summer Pick Up competition was first offered in 2010 as an opportunity for girls to continue playing after their select teams, club teams or school teams finished their seasons. Each a la carte session is only $5.00, and gives areas kids the opportunity to see and play against talent they ordinarily would not see in their primary competitive leagues.
